Jeff sat down. He was in class. He was at school. He was in English class. He liked his English class. He liked his teacher. His teacher was friendly. His teacher helped all the students. His teacher answered everyone's questions. Jeff asked a new question every day. Yesterday he asked his teacher a spelling question. He asked his teacher how to spell "myself." Elizabeth washes her hands every day. She likes to wash her hands. She washes her hands with soap and water. She uses soap and water to wash her hands. She uses warm water and soap. She washes her hands for 30 seconds. After 30 seconds she stops washing her hands. She turns off the water. She dries her hands on a clean towel. Every few hours she turns on the water and washes her hands. Elizabeth has very clean hands. She does not have many germs on her hands. Germs cannot live on her clean hands

A Good Meal

The children were hungry. They looked out the window. Where was their mother? She walked into the house. The children ran over to her. "Mama, we're so hungry," they both said. She said lunch was coming. She walked into the kitchen. She opened a can of chicken soup. She poured the soup into a pot. She added water. She put the pot on the stove. She made two peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. She sliced an apple. The soup was hot. She poured it into two bowls. She put the sandwiches on two plates. She put apple slices on each plate. She put the bowls and plates on the table. The children ran to the table. "Thank you, mommy!" they said. Then they started eating. The cat and the dog watched them eat

Two GoatsThe Two Goats

Over a river there was a very narrow bridge. One day a goat was crossing this bridge. Just at the middle of the bridge he met another goat. There was no room for them to pass. "Go back," said one goat to the other, "there is no room for both of us

"Why should I go back?", said the other goat. "Why should not you go back?"

" You must go back", said the first goat, "because
I am stronger than you

"You are not stronger than I", said the second goat

"We will see about that", said the first goat, and he put down his
horns to fight

"Stop!", said the second goat. " If we fight, we shall both fall into the river and be drowned. Instead I have a plan- I shall lie down, and you may walk over me

Then the wise goat lay down on the bridge, and the other goat walked lightly over him. So they passed each other, and went on their ways

The Fox and the Stork

At one time the Fox and the Stork were on visiting terms and seemed very good friends. So the Fox invited the Stork to dinner, and for a joke put nothing before her but some soup in a very shallow dish. This the Fox could easily lap up, but the Stork could only wet the end of her long bill in it, and left the meal as hungry as when she began. "I am sorry," said the Fox, "the soup is not to your liking."
"Pray do not apologise," said the Stork. "I hope you will return this visit, and come and dine with me soon." So a day was appointed when the Fox should visit the Stork; but when they were seated at table all that was for their dinner was contained in a very long-necked jar with a narrow mouth, in which the Fox could not insert his snout, so all he could manage to do was to lick the outside of the jar.
"I will not apologise for the dinner," said the Stork:

"One bad turn deserves another
."

The Goose With the Golden Eggs

One day a countryman going to the nest of his Goose found there an egg all yellow and glittering. When he took it up it was as heavy as lead and he was going to throw it away, because he thought a trick had been played upon him. But he took it home on second thoughts, and soon found to his delight that it was an egg of pure gold. Every morning the same thing occurred, and he soon became rich by selling his eggs. As he grew rich he grew greedy; and thinking to get at once all the gold the Goose could give, he killed it and opened it only to find nothing

The Peacock's Complaint

A peacock was very unhappy with his ugly voice, and he spent most of his days complaining about it.
"It is true that you cannot sing," said the fox, "But look how beautiful you are!"
"Oh, but what good is all this beauty," moaned the dishearten bird, "with such an unpleasant voice!"
"Oh hear," said the fox, "Each one has it's special gift. You have such beauty, the nightingale has his song, the owl has his eyes, and the eagle his strength. Even if you had a eloquent voice, you would still complain about another thing."

Do not envy the gifts of others. Make the most of your own

STEALING IS BAD

One day, Rosy went to a grocery shop to buy bread. When she saw that the shopkeeper was busy with the other customers, she stole some toffees from a jar.

When she got back home, her mother asked her that where did she get the toffees? Rosy told her mother the truth.

Her mother said, It's really very bad to steal. The shopkeeper might not be looking at you but the God is always looking at you all the time. So, one should never steal.

Rosy understood the words of her mother and went back to the shop to return the toffees to the shopkeeper.
The shopkeeper felt happy on seeing her honesty and gave her some toffees as a reward

Two frogs

A group of frogs were traveling through the woods, and two of them
fell into a deep pit. When the other frogs saw how deep the pit
was, they told the two frogs that they were as good as dead. The
two frogs ignored the comments and tried to jump up out of the pit
with all their might. The other frogs kept telling them to stop,
that they were as good as dead. Finally, one of the frogs took
heed to what the other frogs were saying and gave up. He fell down
and died.

The other frog continued to jump as hard as he could. Once again,
the crowd of frogs yelled at him to stop the pain and just die. He
jumped even harder and finally made it out. When he got out, the
other frogs said, "Did you not hear us?" The frog explained to
them that he was deaf. He thought they were encouraging him the
entire time.

This story teaches two lessons:

1. There is power of life and death in the tongue. An encouraging
word to someone who is down can lift them up and help them make it
through the day.

2. A destructive word to someone who is down can be what it takes
to kill them.

Be careful of what you say. Speak life to those who cross your
path. The power of words... it is sometimes hard to understand
that an encouraging word can go such a long way. Anyone can speak
words that tend to rob another of the spirit to continue in
difficult times. Special is the individual who will take the time
to encourage another.

Just follow the Tracks

Once, 3 men lost their way and got stranded in the middle of

the forest. They didn’t know where they were and hence

they decide that they will stay in the forest for some days

until they find their way. So the next morning, one man went

in search of some food. After many hours, he came back with

a deer over his shoulder. The other two men were surprised

to find how he got a deer with no weapons over which the

man replied, “I find tracks, I follow tracks, and I got a deer"

. They both were slightly confused but decided to ignore and

began to eat. A week later the second guy went in search of

food and came back with an elk over his shoulder. The other

two asked him how he managed to get the elk. He simply

replied, "I find tracks, I follow tracks, and I got an elk". Now

it was the turn of the third guy. He thought to himself “I'm

going to get a better animal.” So the guy left but he did not

return for a long time. Finally, after long hours of waiting,

they saw him coming back. His clothes were torn with

scrapes and bruises all over his body. He was bleeding. They

asked him, “What happened?". He looked at them and

replied, “I find tracks, I follow tracks, and I got hit by a train

TWO TRAVELERS AND SOME MONEY

Two travelers were journeying together when one of them found a bag and said to another, Look, I have found a bag of money.

The other man said, Remember we are traveling together. So, don't say I've found it, say we have found it.

After some time, they heard that the police were looking for the thieves who had stolen a bag of money.

The man holding the bag said, We are undone.

The other man said, Don't say we are undone but I'm undone. When I wouldn't share any money, I'll not have any punishment.

THE WIND AND THE SUN

Once the Wind came to have a false pride of his strength- so much that he challenged the strength of the Sun.

The Son tried to smile away the Wind's challenge but the Wind insisted on a trial of strength. The trial was to be upon a traveler. He, who would make the traveler put off his coat, was to be the winner.

The Wind had the first attempt. He gathered all his force and came down upon the man trying to blow off his coat off his body. But the man felt colder and wrapped it even harder round himself.

Now it was the Sun's turn. The Sun shined brightly. As obvious, the man felt quite hot and put off his coat.

So, the Sun came out to be a winner

EXAMPLE IS BETTER THAN PRECEPT

If you ever see a crab walking on land, you will find that, it walks tilted to one side. It's body is such that it cannot walk straight. This fact is true for all the crabs on earth.

One day a mother-crab was sitting on the bank of a river. Her young son was playing nearby. Suddenly, the mother noticed that, her son was not walking straight rather, he was walking tilting his body sideways.

She got worried and advised her son, You ought to walk straight, not sideways.

The young crab retorted, Mother! Show me, how to walk straight. I will follow your example.

The mother crab tried her level best to walk straight but could not make it and realized her folly

The boy answered, I have fifty rupees.

They searched him but couldn't find anything. When they were about to go, the boy called out, I am not telling a lie. See this fifty rupee note which I had hidden in my shirt.

Happy Endings

Perry Piccolo was a rich kid who led a very nice, comfortable life, protected from most of the bad stuff in the world. One day, Perry went to the movies to see a film he'd been dying to see. The problem was that he arrived a bit late, just as the last ticket was being sold to a very poor looking boy. The boy had been saving for weeks to buy this ticket. Realizing there was no ticket left for himself, Perry was furious, and started shouting and protesting, demanding that the boy hand his over.

"But why should I give you my ticket? I arrived before you did and I've paid for it", said the boy.

"Because I'm more important than you! Look at me! I'm rich and you are poor. Don't you see?", Perry replied.

At that moment, a very distinguished looking man came over to Perry and offered him a ticket, saying,

"Of course, my boy. You have more of a right than him to see this movie".

Then Perry, in the most showy and superior way, walked off from the boy and entered the cinema. When he got inside the auditorium, Perry looked around and was pleased to see that the place was filled with other rich children like himself. He made his way to a seat. However, as soon as Perry sat down, he vanished and was somehow teleported onto the cinema screen. He realized he had turned into a movie character, playing the central role in many stories. And in all those stories Perry started out with a lot of bad luck: a couple of times his parents disappeared, other times his house burned down and he lost all his money. In some stories he had to travel to countries where he didn't understand the language, in others he had to work straight from childhood, to help support all his brothers and sisters. Sometimes he found himself in a situation where everyone treated him like a fool, or like someone who had no feelings...

In all these stories, Perry had to struggle terribly to survive and overcome his difficulties. He managed this, even though few people would have given him a hope. All the stories had a happy ending, in which a wise, fortunate, rich, and mysterious character would help Perry to fulfill his dreams.

When all this came to an end, Perry found himself back in his seat, feeling pretty shocked. He realized that in real life he had always been fortunate, and had never helped anyone to have a happy ending of their own. He felt terrible, and spent a long time in that seat, crying. Finally, an enormous smile broke over his face, and he left the cinema, almost dancing. He was happy because now he knew what he was going to do with his life. He was going to be that helpful person who comes to the aid of less fortunate people. He would be a maker of happy endings!

On his way home, over in the distance he saw the distinguished looking man who had given him the movie ticket. And Perry realized that that man was the same one who had appeared at the end of all the stories on the cinema screen. The man who created happy endings

Moral of the story

Good or bad fortune does not make one a better or worse person, and we all have a responsibility to help the less fortunate

TeaToo Tiny for Tea

Marty Mckay was already five years old, but he was still the baby of the family.

"Can I have some tea too?" Marty asked his mother. She drank her tea from a beautiful cup and stirred it with a silver spoon.

"No, Marty. You're too young to drink tea."

"But, why?" Marty asked.

"Because your fingers are too tiny to hold the cup. And tea is too hot for you, baby."

"I'm not a baby," Marty said. "I'm five and a half."

Marty went out to the yard. His brother Ralph was playing basketball.

"Can I play too?" Marty asked. Ralph bounced the ball up and and down under Marty's nose and then threw it into the basket.

"No Marty, you're too young to play basketball."

"But, why?" Marty asked.

"Because the basket is too high for you to reach. And the ball is too big for your tiny baby hands," Ralph said.

"I'm not a baby," Marty said. "I'm five and three quarters."

Marty went into the kitchen. His sister Jane was getting ready to ride her bicycle to the candy store.

"Can I go to the store to buy candy?" Marty asked Jane. He could feel the wind in his hair and the candy on his tongue.

"No, you're too young to go to the store," Jane said.

"But why?" Marty asked.

"Because the store is too far for you to ride to. And your baby bike is too slow."

"I'm not a baby," Marty said. "I'm nearly six."

"Six?" Jane laughed. "You just turned five!"

Marty sat on the grass and watched his sister ride away on her bike. He started to cry. Marty's father was washing the car. He heard a tiny cry and went to find out what was wrong.

"Why are you crying?" Marty's father asked.

"Because I'm too tiny to do anything. I wish I weren't the youngest one."

"Be careful what you wish for," his father said.

Just then, Marty's mother came out to bring Marty's dad his tea. She patted her belly and smiled.

"We're going to have another baby," his mother said.

"And that means you're going to be a big brother," his father said.

"But, I'm too tiny to be a big brother," Marty said. "I'm just a baby!"

One of the best ways to make children feel closer to nature, and also appreciate its beauty is by introducing gardening to children. These days life has become more and more artificial, and most children don’t even know that the fruit that comes out of cans or is found in grocery stores was once grown on a tree or bush

This activity is also a healthy bonding exercise between parents and children and something you both can enjoy tremendously. Here are a few tips how you can make your kids more environmentally conscious and have fun at the same time:

Plant seeds with kids

Select seeds of plants that are easy to grow and don’t require too much maintenance. Seeds of tomatoes, sunflowers, eggplants, snow peas, carrots and pumpkins are always good. You don’t have to make your kids get into full fledge gardening, simply take 2 or 3 pots and fill them with some compost-soil mix and plant seeds in these pots. You can always paint the pots before planting seeds in them with your kids. Alternately, you can always plant potatoes in water jars and your kids can watch new shoots grow from the top.

Encourage your children to water plants

Make a daily or alternate day routine and make your kids water the seeds that they have planted. This way your child can understand the concept of nurturing and watch the shoots grow. Children get very excited when new shoots emerge and for the newly plated seeds.

Pick fruits or flowers

Picking fruits, vegetables and flowers is the most fun part of the whole activity for children. You can always make salads out of picked vegetables or cook them in colorful ways. This way your children will also develop healthy eating habits, and at the same time enjoy organic, home grown, fruits and vegetables

Mike was a small boy, and he hated soap and water. Three or four times every day his mother said to him, " Mike, your hands are very dirty again. Go and wash them." But Mike never really washed them well. He only put his hands in the water for a few seconds and then took them out again.
Mike's uncle and aunt lived in another city. One day they came to stay with Mike's parents, and they brought their small son, Ted, with them. Ted was a year younger than Mike, and he didn't like soap and water, either.
The boys sat with their parents for a few minutes, but then they went outside. When they were alone, Mike looked at Ted's hands and then said proudly, " My hands are dirtier than yours! "
